Questions

What is a loyalty tax?

It’s what you pay above what your provider charges new customers for a plan like yours. Providers often keep their lowest prices for people who join, while the price for people who stay goes up.

Where do the prices come from?

From each provider’s own website: what new customers in Ontario pay a month, before tax. Each price shows the day it was checked. Prices change often, so look at the provider’s page before you decide.

Is switching really free now?

Since June 12, 2026, the CRTC doesn’t let mobile providers, or the large home internet providers, charge you to activate, change or cancel a plan. If you’re paying off a phone, you still owe what’s left on it.

How do I ask for a better price?

Call your provider and ask for the loyalty department. Say what you pay, what new customers pay for a plan like yours, and that you’re comparing. Ask for that price, and for the offer in writing.

Is anything I type saved or sent?

No. The check runs in your browser, and nothing you type is kept or sent to us.

Does Meter earn anything from these providers?

No. Meter isn’t affiliated with any of them and earns nothing from the links on this page.
